Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982 is an American actress. In 1988 she made her film debut in the film Purple People Eater. For the performance, she was awarded a Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress Under nine years of age". Birch was a child actor who appeared in movies like All I Want For Christmas (1991) and Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). She was awarded a Young Artist Award in the category of "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years of Age." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film brought her an BAFTA nomination. The following year, she was a part-time actress in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch received an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless to Harvard The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Birch has also been a part of Dungeons & Dragons (2000) (2001), The Hole (2004), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006) and Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009). Birch played the role of Whisperer Mary/Gamma in the season 10 episode of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was the oldest of the children born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch her family's initial surname was Biersch, is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian, French-Canadian and Italian origins. "Thora" is her birth name. It comes from the Norse god Thor, thunder and lightning. If it were a boy, that would be her full name. Kian Bolt Birch who is her younger brother, is also her mother. Both are former adult film actors and were both in Deep Throat. They were hesitant to promote Thora because of their experiences in the entertainment industry. But a babysitter noticed Thora performing commercials in a similar way and convinced them to display Thora's photograph to agents. Birch's first big break came at the age of four when her babysitter took her along to auditions for a Quaker Oats commercial.
